Early Imperial Fire Official Seitengewehr w/o Scabbard – no maker (25786)

Description No maker. Gilded brass hilt fittings show surface wear to highlights with portions of gilding remaining in the recesses of the pommel in the shape of an Imperial fire helmet with a raised lion head comb (possibly indicating Sachsen affiliation). The ornate crossguard with trefoil quillons and floral embellished guillon block is complete with a large oval clamshell featuring a raised floral border surrounding a central motif of a fire helmet and crossed fire axes. The white fluted celluloid grip shows light age/surface discoloration with one hairline crack, but no chips or nicks. The straight, plated double-sawtooth blade with blood groove measuring 23 1/16” in length grades EX showing light surface wear/uniform gray speckling, but no major lifting or nicks to cutting edge. Blade is complete with portions of original red felt buffer pad.   Seitengewehr is  WITHOUT scabbard and priced accordingly.  EX
