1350 Century Antennae Short Sword This unusual short sword is a very interesting piece for any collector of early arms. This sword comes with document, and sat in a collection adn was studied in depth. These documents include a hand written French description a authenticity card and hand witten diagrams and references to books. The sword appears to have been found in Ireland. Better scans can be suplplied to propective buyers and the original documents are included. The design like the Celtic bronze swords, however this piece is made of iron. This longer version of the daggers referred to as the Aunlaz or Antennae is dated circa 1350. These medieval quillon daggers are extremely rare with only a few examples being in museums. The classification is hard to determine as the dagger where much shorter in length, perhaps this piece was a custom-made piece. The hilt is a simple design crude but effective. a set of curved quillons and an exposed tang. The pommel is in the same style with curved quillons. The tang also has several markings on either side and the guard appears to have had some form of trauma. The guard itself is loose and can be slid down the tang. However, the overall structure and integrity of the blade is solid. The blade is a double edge with a single fuller on either side, the blade is a very well made and intact. There does appear to be some nicks and damage to the forward portion of the blade and tip. Beautiful overall condition for a well-balanced museum quality piece.
