17th – 18th Century German Bayern Executioners Sword This interesting German executioner is quite unusual not having the traditional gallows and wheel of justice engraved in the blade. The sword is in overall great condition having some very light play with the grip and guard. Its likely that sword sword played some part in the justice system or may have been used during processions. The hilt is comprised of a oval pommel with a studded grip, the studs shaped in cross and numbering three, representing the “Holy Trinity”. The wrapping has many section of felt missing. The hilt is fitted with straight quillons with a imposing quillon block. The double edge spatula blade is marked with the Bayern stamp and three crosses. The blades edge one held and edge but has been blunted which could indicate this was done for display purposes.
