17th – 18th Century Italian Embossed Parade Shield This beautiful example of fine Italian armour belonging to a high ranking noble or officer and used for Processional or Parade. Rarely seen, this fine example is great shape for its age still having the original leather which has the remains of hand painted floral patterns. The shield itself is beautifully decorated with the upper and central portion with an embossed section depicting a ladder, a demonic winged ram and the multiple cross, these all tie together with the inlaid engraving which reads ” NUIRNUS MCCC-IIXXX”. The liner is unfortunately come undone on the lower section and care must be taken when handling the shield, the handle is also wrapped and the original forearm brace is missing. The shield is also beautifully decorated with overlapping designs and floral motifs, the rim is decorated with iron studs which have crosses in-between them. There are several studs missing.
