16th Century Venetian Sword / Spada da Fanti Study and Research only! The sword made by one of the talented smiths / artisans in Venice. The marking my indicate it was made by one of the fine smiths in Venice. The marking is used in various variations by many other Venetian smiths during the period. Not many of these sword are in circulations, as you can see this matched examples in some of the finest collections in Italy. Kindly refer to photos. The hilt is intricate with a ebony handle, with twisted copper / bronze wire inserts in the grip, a rare type breveto pommel and S shaped quillons. The fittings all made from the same material. The sword has also undergone some cleaning as this is very apparent. The sword blade is a double edge design and multiple fullers on either side. The sword has half of the back edge sharpened and the rest forming the spine up to the ricasso. The blade on one side also has a armours mark associated with Venitian armouer from the late 1500’s.
