15th century Venetian Noblemans Parade Sword / Stocco The sword made by Master Venetian Smiths, some of the finest smiths during the period The date circa 1500, the style of the sword favoured and mainly made for nobility. This particular sword is highly gilded with gold, embellished with beautiful engravings which include saints and floral motifs. The sword is from the XV family which are dated from 1350 – 1550. Indications that the sword belonged to a very special high ranking individual. The hilt is super intricate with a leather wrapped handled with crosses and gilding, these bearing gilded dots and gilded crowns at the top and base of the handle. The hilt guard and pommel are engraved with many small circles, a set of curved quillons which are also gilded. The double edge blade is its most distinct feature, which is finely crafted with a very wide blade a. The overall weight of the piece is quiet incredible and the sword can be wielded precisely and it is very robust and manoeuvrable. The blade is also marked with a Venetian armourers stamp which comes from the early 1500’s, kindly see references below. The blades unique feature is the central ridge which is raises and pronounced which allows for a thin but superbly strong blade. A work or Art, truly a rarely Renaissance sword of Museum quality!
