16th Century Swiss Baselard Sword A rare seen 15th century Baselard sword untouched and in original state with original grips. The Balisard has origins with the Swiss Pikeman mercenaries. They established a very proven track record during the late middle ages and then in the renaissance, these where the mercenary troops the Landsknecht where modelled on. While the Balisard was an extremely popular weapon through the middle ages, with many variations this on could also be German. The sword is a short very robust fighting sword, with similar properties to a roman gladius. The hilt of the sword is comprised of a wooden grip a. The guard is a short set of curved quillons facing inwards toward the handle. The pommel of the sword is an iron pommel cap, both the pommel and guard share the same patterns and designs. The blade of the sword is a double edge design with extensive signs of use and stresses in the iron. The blade also has an eight pointed cross. Truly a rarely seen set of Museum quality!
