Northern Italian Ciquedea Sword 15th – 16th century Private Collection The hilt is comprised of a set of curved quillons made from brass / bronze which are engraved. The handle grips / plaque is made of ebony with an exposed tang, the pommel chape is also brass / bronze with the same pattern engraved. The rosettes are also brass and the Grip has been expertly assembled with no rivets. The blade is a double edge with a hollow ground cross section making the blade extremely sturdy. At the base of the blade there are interesting engravings on either side. The include what appear to be a demonic and religious figures. The blade still holds an excellent edge and the sword is very well balanced. The condition overall is of museum condition and certainly made for someone of importance. Very rarely seen on the market and once can sit and admire the incredible Italian artisans, craftsman and smiths who would have had a hand in making this piece of art.
