Knights Sword 15th century French or Italian This sword falls either under XIV or XVIII, both share very similarities including sizes, styles and blades. These swords are super rare when they are in a fine state of preservation. Most swords are recovered from the earth and rivers and are simple skeletons. This particular sword has no loose fitting and is commonly refereed to as a arming or cut or trust sword. The hilt has the original grip, the leather may have been replaced over its long life but appears to be an old replacement. The guard is fitted with a set of single straight quillons. The sword blade and pommel are perfectly fitted with no looseness or wobble present. A large rounded pommel with two antique coins or jetons inserted in the pommel. The pommel fits perfectly on the sword making it a very effective counter balance. It is one of the most superbly balanced and maneuverable swords I have had the privileged of handling. The blade is a double edge design with hollow ground cross section, This sword has extremely pronounced central ridge and overall condition is excellent. The blade is impressive with a width of 8.2 cm and a set of quillons that extend a total of 26 cm. These are similar examples found in some of Europe’s Finest collections and Museums, These examples share substantial similarities and also demonstrate that the use of inserts into pommels. and also blade characteristics.
