Knights Sword 14th – 15th Century. This sword is of German or Italian origin. These swords are super rare when they are in a fine state of preservation. Most swords are recovered from the earth and rivers and are simple skeletons. This particular sword has all original parts with no loose fitting. The hilt has the original grip, the leather may have was well persevered over its life. The guard is fitted with single straight quillons. The sword blade and pommel are perfectly fitted with no looseness or wobble present. A large rounded pommel with crosses on either side fits perfectly on the sword making it a very effective counter balance. With a weight of 1.1 kg it is one of the most superbly balanced and maneuverable swords I have had the privileged of handling. The blade is a double edge design with diamond cross section, the overall condition is excellent and the blade is also marked with a cross fourchee which appears to be inlaid with gold. These crosses commonly seen on Germanic origin sword from the 14th century as referenced in the following images. This seems to indicate more towards it being German, however a handful of Italian swords also bear these markings. It’s very possible if this sword is Germanic that it may belonged to a member of the Teutonic Order. Kindly note these photos below are just for reference and not taken by me.
