Napoleonic War 1770 Austro – Hungarian Officers Hussars Silver Sabre This very impressive Napoleonic war sabre is one of the rarest types and very desirable and rarely seen. Kindly note may reproductions exist of this sabre but this is a complete original state sabre. These sabres where issued to high ranking Austro – Hungarian Cavalry officers. The sabre which has silver gilding on much of the fitting also has areas of fading due to use and ware. The hilt made of heavily silver-plated brass and the sabre fits perfectly into the scabbard. The hilt which is cavalry sabre type is in excellent condition, the knuckle bow has a visible crack. The remainder of the fitting are in great shape and have interesting wave pattern. The blade truly speaks for itself, a beautifully crafted sabre blade with stunning script engraved on either side. These extend down 30 % of the blade on both sides and are completed with Jesus on the cross on one side and what could be a coat of arms or perhaps regimental insignia. Similar types can be found in the book by Eduard Wagner, Hieb und Stichwaffen, p. 343, plates 36, 37 and dates back to the 2nd half of the 18th century. dated. The scabbard is in fine shape but there is some fading of the felt areas due to age and wear. The fittings are in fine condition but again show signs of use. Truly a rarely seen sword!
