This highly crafted sword was likely made for a nobleman, and has an incredible hilt design with a twisted handle accompanied by a embossed “Lion” and “Dragon”. These are overshadowed by a portrait of what could only be described as a Nobel or high ranking individual which is gilded in gold. The sail guard expertly made with multiple perforations, both done for aesthetics as well as for weight reduction. The quillons extending outwards with a twisted pattern and lobed ends which are also engraved beautifully. The pommel perforated having and oval design, which matches with the quillon ends showing the flow and uniformity of the overall design and style. The blade is a beautiful wasped double edge design, it’s form a tribute of the early Iberian and Hispanic iron swords with whasped blades. The ricasso depicting the “Cross” surrounded by the ray of light. This is commonly seen with many swords, since the Christian symbolism was a very important factor.
